Årets Vakreste Bøker (The Most Beautiful Books of the Year) is an annual award with a long and important tradition, going all the way back to 1933. It’s initiated by Grafill, with the goal of highlighting and inspiring publishers, writers, designers and illustrators to create quality book of all genres. The award is followed by an exhibition of the most beautiful books of the year.
As a tradition Grafill usually changes their collaborators for the award’s design and profile every other year, and this time they’re joining forces with Byggstudio—a Swedish-Norwegian design studio founded in 2006 by Hanna Nilsson and Sofia Østerhus. The duo mainly works with brand identities, signs, exhibitions and public spaces.
"We are so happy to have the chance to be a part of this project. A book is a beloved object for many people and an item which will be exciting to explore through photography and the exhibition format," the two explain.
Kari Bucher, executive manager at Grafill, says they’re really happy with the job done by their previous collaborators, All Tomorrow, but that they’re looking forward to continuing to develop the award and starting their collaboration with Byggstudio.
"We have great expectations for Byggstudio’s contributions. We want the award to have greater importance, to be bigger and better in the years to come, and I’m certain we’ve chosen the best collaborators for the job," Kari says.
Grafill is an organisation for everyone who works or studies design, illustrations and visual communication. It’s a national organisation and currently counts 1350 members.
