When he is not animating, designing or being a cinematographer for clients like Google, Microsoft, Fox, MTV, BMW or Ford—to name a few—Russian visual artist and motion designer Maxim Zhestkov creates eye-candylicious CG art that feels both ominous and beautiful at the same time.
In the film Volumes, Maxim explores the juxtaposition of emotions with the laws of nature. Billions of colourful particles dance, play and communicate with each other in an eternal hypnotic ballet. A mesmerising piece indeed; constantly dancing on the border between being a matter that will either eat and devour you, wrap you in a particle blanket, or transcend you into something that…well, has to be amazing; maybe a parallel universe, or just comprehensive insight into a highly intelligent extra terrestrial. Regardless of any subjective perspective, however, the organic and constantly changing liquid-like matter triggers a hailstorm of associations. An inevitable brain feeder for anyone who appreciates pretty things to look at.
